Σύναξις Υπεραγίας Θεοτόκου του «Άξιόν Εστιν» εν Αγίω Όρει

Η   ιερή   εικόνα    της    Παναγίας  του  «Άξιόν   Εστιν»   φυλάσσεται    στο  ναό  του   Πρωτάτου  του  Αγίου  Όρους, στις  Καρυές.  Ο  ναός  αυτός  κτίσθηκε  το  843   μ.Χ., μεγάλωσε   από   τον   Όσιο  Αθανάσιο   τον  Αθωνίτη   και   αγιογραφήθηκε   κατά   τον   13^ο   αιώνα   μ.Χ.   από   τον περίφημο   αγιογράφο   Εμμανουήλ   Πανσέληνο.

Σύμφωνα   με   την   παράδοση,   κάποιος   μοναχός,    ο   οποίος  ζούσε κοντά    στις   Καρυές   με   έναν   νεαρό   υποτακτικό,   έφυγε   ένα   βράδυ από   το   κελί,   διότι   έπρεπε    να    πάει    στην   εκκλησία   του Πρωτάτου,    για    να    συμμετάσχει   σε    μια   αγρυπνία.  Όταν    νύχτωσε,   ο   δόκιμος,    που    έμεινε    μόνος,   άκουσε    αργά    το   βράδυ να   κτυπούν   την   πόρτα   και   ανοίγοντάς   την   είδε   ένα  γέροντα  μοναχό, που   ζητούσε φιλοξενία. Τα μεσάνυχτα ο   γέροντας  και  ο  δόκιμος  άρχισαν να  ψάλλουν   μαζί    την   Ακολουθία.  Μόλις  έφθασε  η  ώρα  να  ψάλλουν   «Την Τιμιωτέραν»,   ο   γέροντας   πρόλαβε   το   δόκιμο στο   ψάλσιμό   του   λέγοντας    το   «Άξιον  εστιν  μακαρίζειν Σε την  Θεοτόκον, την αειμακάριστον και   παναμώμητον και  Μητέρα του  Θεού  ημών».  Ο  νεαρός  δόκιμος  άκουσε  τον ύμνο  αυτό  για   πρώτη   φορά.   Γι’ αυτό  είπε   στο    γέροντα    να  του  γράψει  αυτά  τα   λόγια,   για   να  υμνεί    την  Παναγία.  Ο γέροντας    δέχθηκε  και  έγραψε  τον ύμνο  επάνω    σε  μία   πέτρα,  που  έγινε μαλακή  σαν  κερί,  και  είπε  στο  νεαρό    δόκιμο:   «Από   εδώ   και   πέρα    έτσι    εσείς   και   όλοι   οι  Ορθόδοξοι  να  ψάλετε  αυτόν τον   ύμνο».   Ο   γέροντας   μοναχός,   αφού είπε   πως   τον   έλεγαν   Γαβριήλ,  εξαφανίσθηκε.

Μόλις  επέστρεψε  ο  γέροντας  μοναχός,  ο  δόκιμος  του έδειξε  την  πέτρα  και  έψαλε   τον   ύμνο  που είχε ακούσει. Ο   γέροντας  με   τη διάκρισή   του   διεπίστωσε  αμέσως  το  θαυματουργικό  γεγονός  και  έτρεξε  να  μεταφέρει  το θαυμαστό  αντικείμενο  στους  γέροντες  του  γειτονικού  μοναστηριού.  Έτσι διαδόθηκε  ότι  ο  μυστηριώδης  επισκέπτης   ήταν    ο    Αρχάγγελος  Γαβριήλ,   ο    οποίος   είχε   κατέβει από  τον   ουρανό, για   να   διδάξει   ένα   νέο   ύμνο  προς  τιμήν   της  Υπεραγίας  Θεοτόκου.

Η χαραγμένη πέτρα από τον Αρχάγγελο Γαβριήλ απεστάλη στον Πατριάρχη   Κωνσταντινουπόλεως   Νικόλαο   Χρυσοβέργη  (984 – 996 μ.Χ.),  ο   οποίος   ενέκρινε   την  εισαγωγή   του  αγγελικού  αὐτού   ύμνου  στο   λειτουργικό   βίο    της    Εκκλησίας.

Ο    Άγιος    Νικόδημος   ο  Αγιορείτης    αναφέρει   ότι    το    γεγονός    αυτό  είναι  πολύ παλαιό  και  τούτο  μαρτυρείται  από  τα Μηναία   της  Εκκλησίας, όπου  στις  11 Ιουνίου αναγράφεται:   «Τη   αυτή   ημέρᾳ,   η  Σύναξις  του  Αρχαγγέλου  Γαβριήλ  εν   τω  Άδειν».   Το   γεγονός   αυτό συνέβη  το  982   μ.Χ.       
Η   ιερή  εικόνα  της Θεομήτορος  είναι  τύπου  Ελεούσης  ή  Γλυκοφιλούσης  και   κρατά    στα    δεξιά    της    τον    Ιησού  Χριστό.

Πατέρων αθροίσθητε, πάσα του Άθω πληθύς, πιστώς  εορτάζοντες, σήμερον  χαίροντες,  και  φαιδρώς  αλαλάζοντες, πάντες   εν   ευφροσύνῃ· του   Θεού  γαρ    η  Μήτηρ,  νυν΄ παρά  του  Αγγέλου,  παραδόξως  υμνείται·  διο  ως   Θεοτόκον    αεί,   ταύτην  δοξάζομεν.

Τη  σεπτή  σου  Εικόνι  Γαβριήλ  ο  Αρχάγγελος,   καταπτάς    εν   σχήματι  ξένω,   την  ωδήν  σοι  ανέμελψεν,  Άξιόν   εστιν  ως  αληθώς,   την   μόνην μακαρίζειν  σε Αγνή, ως Μητέρα του των όλων Δημιουργού, και σώζουσαν τους κράζοντας· δόξα τοις  θαυμασίοις σου  Αγνή, δόξα τοις   μεγαλείοις    σου,    δόξα   τη    προς    ημάς   σου   προνοίᾳ    Άχραντε.

Άξιον  υμνείν σε δια παντός, την Θεού Μητέρα, και προστάτιν των  γηγενών, παρά του Αγγέλου, Παρθένε διδαχθέντες, υμνούμεν καθ’ εκάστην,   τα   μεγαλείά  σου.

Synaxis of the Most Holy Theotokos of "Axon Estin" in Mount Athos

The sacred image of Our Lady of "Axion Estin" is kept in the temple of Mount Athos in Karyes. This church was built in 843 AD, grew up by Athos Athos of Athonite and was hagiographed in the 13th century AD. by the famous hagiographer Emmanuel Panselinos.

According to tradition, a monk who lived near Karyes with a young subordinate left one night from the cell because he had to go to the Protatto Church to participate in a vigil. When it was night, the cadet, who stayed alone, listened late in the evening to the door, and by opening it he saw an elderly monk who was requesting hospitality. At midnight the elder and the probationer began to chant the Sequence together. As soon as the time has come to chant "The Timothy", the elder received the praise of his psalmion by saying, "Axion Estin blesses In Theotokon, the Wonderful and Immaculate and Mother of our God". The young proverb heard the anthem for the first time. That is why he told the elder to write to him these words, to praise the Virgin Mary. The elder received and wrote the anthem on a stone, made soft as a candle, and said to the young priest: "From here on, you and all the Orthodox should seek this hymn." The elderly monk, after saying he was called Gabriel, disappeared.

As soon as the elderly monk returned, his cadet showed the stone and sang the hymn he had heard. The elder with his distinction immediately found the miraculous event and ran to carry the marvelous object to the elders of the neighboring monastery. Thus it was spread that the mysterious visitor was Archangel Gabriel, who had descended from the sky to teach a new hymn to honor the Most Holy Theotokos.

The engraved stone from Archangel Gabriel was sent to the Patriarch of Constantinople Nikolaos Chrysovergi (984-996 AD), who approved the introduction of this angelic hymn into the working life of the Church.

Saint Nicodemus of Mount Athos reports that this fact is very old and this is testified by the Minoan Church, where on 11 June it is written: "On that day, the Synaxis of the Archangel Gabriel in the Empire". This happened in 982 AD.

The sacred icon of the Godmaster is of the type of Eleousis or Glykofilloussis and holds on her right hand Jesus Christ.
