Οι Άγιοι Πρόχορος, Νικάνωρ, Τίμων και Παρμενάς οι Απόστολοι και Διάκονοι

«Ός  εάν   θέλη   εν   ημίν   μέγας   γενέσθαι,   έσται   υμών  διάκονος». Όποιος,   δηλαδή,   θέλει    να   γίνει    μέγας   μεταξύ   σας,   είπε    ο  Κύριος,  άς  είναι  υπηρέτης σας  και  άς   μαθαίνει  να  γίνεται  εξυπηρετικός    στους    άλλους.

Σ’  αυτή  την   κατηγορία    ανθρώπων    ανήκαν    και   οι    απόστολοι –  από  τους  70   μαθητές   του   Κυρίου – Πρόχορος,   Νικάνωρ,   Τίμων   και Παρμένος. Αυτοί   ήταν   μεταξύ   των   επτά   εκλεγμένων   διακόνων   της πρώτης   χριστιανικής   Εκκλησίας    των    Ιεροσολύμων  (Πράξ. στ’ 5).

Το   έργο   τους   ήταν   να   υπηρετούν   και   να   επιστατούν   στη   διατροφή   των       από των  μελών  της  Εκκλησίας,   ιδιαίτερα  των  ορφανών    και    των   χηρών.        Αλλά    υπηρετούσαν   και   στη   διάδοση   του   Θείου   Λόγου.   Έτσι αργότερα,   ο   μεν   Πρόχορος   ακολούθησε   τον   ευαγγελιστή   Ιωάννη   στη    Μικρά     Ασία,  όπου   έγινε     επίσκοπος   Νικομήδειας   και  αναδείχθηκε  τέλειος  διάκονος   του   επισκοπικού    καθήκοντος.

Ο   δε   Τίμων    υπέστη   μαρτυρικό  θάνατο  στα   Βόστρα   της   Αραβίας,   όπου    είχε   σταλεί    να    υπηρετήσει   το   Ευαγγέλιο.

Οι  άλλοι   δύο,   ο   Νικάνωρ   και   ο  Παρμένος,  πέθαναν   στην Ιερουσαλήμ,   εκτελώντας   το   διακονικό   τους   έργο.   Κηδεύθηκαν   από τους   ίδιους   τους   Αποστόλους,   κάτω   από   το  πένθος   όλης   της Εκκλησίας,    την   οποία   υπηρέτησαν   με   τόσο    ζήλο   και   επιτυχία.          
Έτσι,   ο καθένας   χωριστά,   αναδείχθηκε   «πιστός   διάκονος   εν   Κυρίω».   Δηλαδή    πιστός    διάκονος    στο    έργο   του    Κυρίου.

Ως  θείοι συνέκδημοι,  των  Αποστόλων  Χριστού,  θεόθεν  εκρίθητε   διακονείν   ευσεβώς,    τω   θείω  πληρώματι,  Πρόχορε   θεηγόρε,  συν  Νικάνορι    άμα,  Τίμων ο  θεοκήρυξ.  Παρμενάς  τε  ο  θείος,  πρεσβεύοντες    τω    Κυρίω,    υπέρ    των   ψυχών   ημών.

Διάκονοι   σεπτοί,   και   αυτόπται   του  Λόγου,   και    σκεύη  εκλογής,  ανεδείχθητε   πίστει,  Νικάνορος  και  Πρόχορε,    Παρμενά    Τίμων  ένδοξε.  Όθεν σήμερον,  την ιερών υμών μνήμην, εορτάζομεν, εν ευφροσύνη     καρδίας,   υμάς   μακαρίζοντες.

Η των Αποστόλων θεία τετράς, Πρόχορε   Νικάνορ, και συν Τίμωνι   Παρμενά, ως της ευσεβείας διάκονοι και   μύσται, μυσταγωγείν  τα  κρείττω,   ημάς   μη    παύσησθε.

The Saints Prochorus, Nikanor, Timon and Parmenas the Apostles and Deacons

"Whatever will I have in the midst of generation, it is your deacon." Whoever, therefore, wants to become great among you, the Lord said, let him be your servant and let him learn to be helpful to others.

In this category of people belonged the apostles - out of the 70 disciples of the Lord - Prochorus, Nikanor, Timon and Parmenos. These were among the seven elected deacons of the first Christian Church of Jerusalem (Acts 5).

Their task was to serve and pay attention to their diet from members of the Church, especially the orphans and widows. But they also served to spread the Divine Word. Thus, later, Propromus followed evangelist John in Asia Minor, where he became bishop of Nicomedia and became the perfect deacon of the bishop's duty.

Timmon suffered a martyrdom death in Arabia, where he had been sent to serve the Gospel.

The other two, Nicholas and Parmen, died in Jerusalem, performing their diaconal work. They were buried by the Apostles themselves, under the mourning of the whole Church, which they served with so much zeal and success.

Thus, each one separately, became "a faithful deacon in the Lord". That is a faithful deacon in the work of the Lord.
