Η Αγία Παρασκευή η Οσιομάρτυς

Η  Αγία    Οσιομάρτυς   Παρασκευή,  καταγόταν  από  την  Ρώμη,  οι  δε γονείς   της    Αγάθων    και    Πολιτεία    ήταν   χριστιανοί.

Επειδή    όμως   ήταν   άτεκνοι    παρακαλούσαν    τον   Θεό   να   τους   χαρίσει   ένα   παιδί.   Πράγματι    ο    Θεός    τους    άκουσε    και    τους  χάρισε  ένα παιδί.  Και  επειδή   όταν   γεννήθηκε   ήταν   η   έκτη   ημέρα της εβδομάδος, την ονόμασαν Παρασκευή  και  από  μικρή  την  αφιέρωσαν  στον  Θεό.  Η    Παρασκευή,  έλαβε   την   χριστιανική μόρφωση   από   την   μητέρα   της   και   μάλιστα    μελετούσε  συνέχεια τα   ιερά   γράμματα   και   προσευχόταν    πολλές    ώρες    στην  εκκλησία.

Μετά    τον   θάνατο   των   δικών   της   μοίρασε   όλα   της   τα  υπάρχοντα  στους   φτωχούς  και   έγινε  μοναχή.   Έμεινε   εκεί    αρκετό  χρονικό  διάστημα  και  μετά  λαμβάνοντας  την ευχή  της   ηγουμένης  βγήκε  έξω   στον    κόσμο    και    κήρυττε   τον   Χριστό    προσελκύοντας  πολύ    κόσμο    στον    χριστιανισμό.

Για     όλα  αυτά  οδηγήθηκε  στον  βασιλιά  Αντωνίνο   ο   οποίος θαμπωμένος   από   την   ομορφιά     της   και   την   σύνεσή   της προσπάθησε   να   την   πείσει     να    θυσιάσει   στα   είδωλα    και   θα   της    έδινε   ότι  ήθελε.     
Η  Αγία  όμως  αρνήθηκε  και  τότε  διέταξε  να  αρχίσουν  τα  βασανιστήρια.   Μάλιστα    την    έβαλαν  μέσα  σε   ένα   θερμασμένο λέβητα   γεμάτο   πίσσα   και   λάδι.   Μόλις    έγινε  αυτό  η  Αγία  φαινόταν  να    δροσίζεται    μέσα    σ’  αυτό  και  ο Αντωνίνος εξοργισμένος   έδωσε   εντολή   να   θανατωθεί,    περνώντας    και    αυτή στην     μεγάλη    χορεία    των    μαρτύρων    της    εκκλησίας   μας.

Την   σπουδήν    σου   τη    κλήσει    κατάλληλον,    εργασάμενη    φερώνυμε,  την   ομώνυμόν  σου  πίστιν,  εις   κατοικίαν    κεκλήρωσαι,  Παρασκευή    Αθληφόρε·   όθεν  προχέεις  ιάματα,  και    πρεσβεύεις    υπέρ    των    ψυχών    ημών.
