Η Αγία Μαρκέλλα η Παρθενομάρτυς

Μας  είναι    άγνωστο   πότε  έζησε.  Στο  Λειμωνάριο  αναφέρεται  ότι  ήταν   από    την   Χίο,  αλλά  γι’ αυτό  δεν  έχουμε καμία  αρχαία μαρτυρία.

Η  Οσία    Μαρκέλλα    έγινε   γνωστή,  από  του  ότι    οι    κάτοικοι    του  νησιού   Χίου,  πριν   από   πολλά   χρόνια   είχαν   ναό    στ’  όνομά   της,  που    έκανε    πολλά     θαύματα.       
Μεταξύ    των  άλλων   θαυμάτων  διηγούνται  και  αυτό:  ότι  στην   παραλία   που  ήταν  ο  ναός  της  Οσίας,   βρίσκουν    χαλίκια   γεμάτα αίματα   πηγμένα,   που    αφού    τα    ξύσουν    τα    βάζουν    σε    αγγεία  και    τα   έχουν    να    θεραπεύουν    αρρώστιες.

Η  λαμπρά σου άθλησις,  ω   καλλιμάρτυς   Μαρκέλλα,  των  πιστών εφαίδρυνε,    τας    διανοίας   ενθέως·   θάνατον,  του  ζην  ανόμως προκρίνειν   πάντας,   πείθουσα·   και    γαρ    ετμήθης   ξίφει    την   κάραν,  συν     μαστοίς   υπό   πατρώας,   χειρός·  ω  δράμα!  υπέρ  του  νόμου  Χριστού.

Χλαίναν   παρθενίας πορφυραυγή, αίμασιν   οικείοις, βεβαμμένην   αθλητικώς,   φέρουσα   Μαρκέλλα,    τω    Λόγω    ενυμφεύθης,   τιμηθείσα  τη    πατρώᾳ,   χειρί    ως   πάνσεμνος.
