Οι Άγιοι 45 Μάρτυρες που μαρτύρησαν στη Νικόπολη της Αρμενίας

Οι  Άγιοι  αυτοί  μαρτύρησαν στις αρχές του 4^ου αιώνα, όταν αυτοκράτορας   ήταν   ο   Λικίνιος.   Κορυφαίοι  απ’ αυτούς   ήταν   ο Λεόντιος,    ο   Μαυρίκιος,   ο   Δανιήλ    και    ο    Αντώνιος.

Όταν   ο   Λικίνιος   εξέδωσε   διάταγμα   κατά   των   χριστιανών,   μόνοι τους          ήλθαν   στον   δούκα   και   φανέρωσαν   ότι   είναι   χριστιανοί.   Σε  ερώτηση   του   Λυσία,   ποιος   τους   έπεισε   να   μη   θυσιάζουν   στους   θεούς,   αυτοί  απάντησαν:   «Ο  Χριστός   είναι   εκείνος  που   μας   δίδαξε και   μᾶς  έπεισε  να   μη   λατρεύουμε   θεούς   ανύπαρκτους,  και   να   μη   προσκυνούμε   τα   είδωλά    τους».

Οργισμένος    ο    δούκας,   διέταξε    και   τους    φυλάκισαν   δεμένους  χειροπόδαρα,   χωρις   να   τους    δίδεται   καθόλου    ψωμί   και    νερό.    Οι Άγιοι πέρασαν  τη  νύκτα προσευχόμενοι. Μεταξύ   άλλων, έλεγαν:   "Ευλογούμε, Κύριε, εσένα, το  βασιλιά   της  δόξας.  Διότι συ είσαι   η αληθινή  ζωή,  που  θυσιάστηκες  για μας τους   αμαρτωλούς,  ο  Υιός  του  αληθινού  Θεού.  Ένωσέ μας, Κύριε,  ώστε  όλοι   μαζί   με   μια   ψυχή    να   σε   ομολογήσουμε    και   όλοι    μαζί   να    πεθάνουμε».

Το   πρωί   ο   Λυσίας,   αφού   τους   έβγαλε   από   τη   φυλακή,   τους   ρώτησε αν   μετάνιωσαν   και   επανήλθαν   στους   θεούς   του   κράτους.   Οι    Άγιοι με  ένα   στόμα    απάντησαν:   «χριστιανοί   εσμέν».    Είμαστε χριστιανοί.   Με   μανία   τότε   ο   Λυσίας   διέταξε   και   τους   έκοψαν χέρια    και   πόδια,   και   έπειτα   τους   έριξαν    στη    φωτιά.           
Έτσι,   όλοι   μαζί   αξιώθηκαν   να   πάρουν   το   αμάραντο   στεφάνι   του  μαρτυρίου.   Μεταξύ   δε   αυτών   ήταν   και   οι   πρόκριτοι   της   πόλεως Δανιήλ,   Μαυρίκιος,   Αντώνιος    και  Λεόντιος.
