Ο Άγιος Αφρικανός, Θεόδωρος, Μάξιμος, Πομπήιος και Τερέντιος οι Μάρτυρες και οι συν αυτοίς τριάντα εννέα Μάρτυρες

Οι  Άγιοι Μάρτυρες Αφρικανός, Θεόδωρος, Μάξιμος, Πομπήιος και  Τερέντιος   μαρτύρησαν    το    έτος   250   μ.Χ.,    επί    αυτοκράτορος  Δεκίου   (249 – 251 μ.Χ.)  και  ηγεμόνος   Φουρτουνιανού,    στην Καρθαγένη  της  Αφρικής   μαζί    με    άλλους τριάντα  εννέα  Χριστιανούς, των οποίων τα ονόματα είναι: Ανάξαρχος, Αναξιμένης, Αριστείδης, Δημάρατος, Δημοκλής, Δημοσθένης, Διονύσιος, Επαμεινώνδας,   Ετεοκλής,   Ζήνων,   Ηλίας,  Ηρακλής, Ησαΐας,  Ηφαιστίων, Θεμιστοκλής, Θεόφραστος, Θησεύς, Θωμάς,  Ισοκράτης,  Λουκάς, Μακάριος, Μιλτιάδης, Μνήσαρχος, Ξενοφών,  Όμηρος,  Παρμενίων, Πελοπίδας, Περικλής, Πίνδαρος, Πολύβιος, Πολύνικος, Προμηθεύς,   Σοφοκλής,   Σωκράτης,   Τιμόθεος, Τίτος, Φιλοποίμην, Φωκίων    και    Χρόνιος.

Οι    Άγιοι   συνελήφθησαν,  επειδή   ήταν    Χριστιανοί    και  δοκιμάσθηκαν  με πολλά  βασανιστήρια. Πρώτα τους χτύπησαν υπερβολικά,  μέχρις   ότου   φάνηκαν   τα   σπλάγχνα   τους,   στην συνέχεια   με   πυρωμένα   καρφιά   τους   τρύπησαν   τα    ισχία   και  επάνω  σε  αυτά  έριξαν  ξύδι και  αλάτι. Αφού   όμως    προσευχήθηκαν, κατέστρεψαν   τα   ξόανα, τους βωμούς και  τους ναούς των ειδωλολατρών.   Στο   τέλος, μετά   τις φρικτές βασάνους, αποκεφαλίσθηκαν.
Η    Εκκλησία   τιμά    την    μνήμη  τους  και  στις   28  Οκτωβρίου.

Στρατός  θεοσύλλεκτος,   πανευκλεών   Αθλητών,   στερρότητι   πίστεως, εξ   Αφρικής   συνδραμών,   γενναίως  ηγώνισται·  σύμφρονες  γαρ  τη γνώμη,  και  τοις   τρόποις  οφθέντες,    σύναθλοι  εν αγώσιν, ανεδείχθησαν   πάντες.   Και    νυν   καθικετεύουσι,    σώζεσθαι    άπαντας.

Ως   Χριστού   ακόλουθοι   οι   Αθλοφόροι,   εν σταδίω  έλεγον, αγωνιζόμενοι   στερρώς·  Μη  δειλιάσωμεν  σύναθλοι·  τρυφή   γαρ   μένει  υμάς    αδιάδοχος.

Πλάνης   καταπτύσαντες   των   θεσμών,   τη   ομολογία,   παρετάξασθε του   Χριστού,   κατά   των   ανόμων,   γενναίοι   Αθλοφόροι·   διο   των αϊδίων,   γερών   ετύχετε.

The Saints were arrested because they were Christians and tried with many tortures. They first beat them too much, until their splashes were visible, then with their nails burned, their hips pierced and threw vinegar and salt on them. But after they prayed, they destroyed the idols, the altars, and the temples of the idolaters. In the end, after the terrible torture, they were beheaded.

The Church honors their memory on 28 October.

As a follower of Christ, the Athletes, in their turn, say, struggling with steros; Do not despise congregations; vain for you is uninhibited.
