Ο Άγιος Ευψύχιος ο εν Καισαρεία

Ο  Άγιος  Μάρτυς  Ευψύχιος  έζησε  κατά  τους  χρόνους  του  δυσσεβούς αυτοκράτορα  Ιουλιανού του   Παραβάτου   (361 – 363   μ.Χ.)  και  καταγόταν από  τη  χώρα  της  Καππαδοκίας.  Ήταν  άνθρωπος  με  θεοφιλή    βίο    και   αγαθή    κρίση    και  είχε  πολύ  πόθο  για  τον  Χριστό.  Όταν  στην  Καισάρεια της Καππαδοκίας  ο  Ιουλιανός  έχτισε  ναό  της  θεάς  Τύχης,  στον  οποίο θυσίαζαν  οι  ειδωλολάτρες,  ο  Ευψύχιος  πήρε  μαζί  του  και    μερικούς    άλλους   θαρραλέους    νέους  και    γκρέμισαν  το  ναό  από  τα  θεμέλια  καθώς  και  το είδωλο  της  θεάς.  Όταν  έμαθε  αυτά  ο  βασιλέας  οργίσθηκε  υπερβολικά  και απέστειλε  στρατιώτες  για  να  τους  συλλάβουν.  Και  τους  άλλους,  αφού   τους  στέρησε  από  την  περιουσία  τους,  τους  υπέβαλλε  σε  ποικίλα   χτυπήματα  και  τους  εξόρισε.  Τον   Μάρτυρα    όμως,    Ευψύχιο,  επειδή  κατά   την   γνώμη  του  υπήρξε  η  αιτία  αυτής  της  ενέργειας, πρώτα  τον  έκλεισε στη  φυλακή,  στην   συνέχεια  δε  τον  βασάνισε  πολύ.  Επειδή  όμως   δεν   κατάφερνε  να  τον πείσει  να  αρνηθεί  την  πίστη  του  στον  Χριστό,  έδωσε εντολή  και  τον  αποκεφάλισαν.  Ήταν  το  έτος  363  μ.Χ.  Έτσι  ο  Μάρτυς Ευψύχιος  κέρδισε    αντί  της φθαρτής  ζωής,  τον  άφθαρτο  στέφανο   του μαρτυρίου.

Ευψύχως   ήνυσας,   δρόμον   τον   ένθεον,   και  καταβέβληκας,   εχθρόν  τον   δόλιον,   την   πανοπλίαν   του   Σταυρού,   παμμάκαρ   ενδεδυμένος· όθεν συνηρίθμησαι, των Μαρτύρων ταις τάξεσι, δόξαν   αιωνίζουσαν,  κεκτημένος   Ευψύχιε.    Αλλά    μη  διαλείπῃς  πρεσβεύων,  σώσαι  ημάς  τους    σε    τιμώντας.
