Ο Άγιος Ματθίας ο Απόστολος

Πως ο   Ματθίας   κατατάχθηκε   στο   χορό   των    δώδεκα    Αποστόλων, το    γνωρίζουμε  από  τις    Πράξεις    των    Αποστόλων.

Μετά   την   προδοσία   και   τον   απαγχονισμό   του   Ιούδα   και   μετά   την   Ανάληψη   του   Κυρίου,   οι   έντεκα   μαθητές   με   την   Παναγία βρίσκονταν     στο    υπερώον.   Τότε   ο   Πέτρος   πρότεινε   να  εκλεγεί   άλλος   αντί   του   Ιούδα,   από   τους  άνδρες   που   ακολουθούσαν  υπηρετώντας  τον  Χριστό.  Η  πρόταση    έγινε   δεκτή   και   τέθηκαν    δύο υποψήφιοι:  ο    Ιωσήφ   ο   καλούμενος   Βαρσαββάς   και   ο    Ματθίας. Τότε έβαλαν   κλήρο,   και    δίνοντας   σε   όλους   εμάς παράδειγμα   εναπόθεσης    κάθε   εκλογής   μας  στο    Θεό,   προσευχήθηκαν    όλοι   μαζί   ως    εξής:

«Συ    Κύριε,   καρδιογνώστα    πάντων,   ανάδειξαν όν εξελέξω    εκ τούτων   των  δύο έναν,  λαβείν    τον   κλήρον    της   διακονίας ταύτης   και   αποστολής».    Δηλαδή:   «Συ   Κύριε, που γνωρίζεις    τις   καρδιές    όλων, φανέρωσε καθαρά    εκείνον που   εξέλεξες, έναν από   αυτούς   τους    δύο, για   να   επωμισθεί   το   αξίωμα    της   αποστολικής    διακονίας».  
Στην   συνέχεια   ο   κλήρος    έπεσε   στο   Ματθία.   Και    έτσι    προστέθηκε   στους   έντεκα    Αποστόλους.    Από   τη   μετέπειτα    ζωή του    Ματθία, γνωρίζουμε     ότι   κήρυξε   το   Ευαγγέλιο    στην    Αιθιοπία,    όπου     και    τελείωσε    τη   ζωή    του    μαρτυρικά.

Θείω    Πνεύματι,    κεκληρωμένος,    συνεπλήρωσας,    των    Αποστόλων,  την     δωδεκάριθμον     φάλαγγα    ένδοξε·  μεθ’  ών   κηρύξας  του  Λόγου  την     κένωσιν,     εθαυμαστώθης  Ματθία     Απόστολε.    Αλλά    πρέσβευε,     δοθήναι    τοις     σεγεραίρουσι,    πταισμάτων    ιλασμόν    και  μέγα    έλεος.

Φωταυγής ως ήλιος εις πάντα κόσμον, εξελθών ο φθόγγος σου, καταφωτίζει  των  εθνών,  την  Εκκλησίαν  εν χάριτι, θαυματοφόρε  Ματθία    Απόστολε.

Μεγαλυνάριον.
Τον της ευσεβείας    υφηγητήν,    και   της   Δωδεκάδος,    το     συμπλήρωμα   της   κλητής,  ύμνοις  σε τιμώμεν,  Απόστολε    Ματθία,    ως     άριστον     μεσίτην,    ημών   προς   Κύριον.

Saint Matthew the Apostle

How Matthias was classed in the dance of the Twelve Apostles, we know from the Acts of the Apostles.

After Judas was betrayed and hanged, and after the Ascension of the Lord, the eleven disciples with Our Lady were on the throne. Peter then proposed that another man be chosen instead of Judas, from the men who followed in serving Christ. The proposal was accepted and two candidates were nominated: Joseph of Warsaw and Matthias. Then they put up a lot, and giving us all an example of depositing our election in God, they all prayed together as follows:

"Sir, all cardiac readers, I have chosen to be one of the two of them, to receive the clergy of this ministry and mission." That is to say: "Sir, knowing the hearts of all, she has clearly revealed the one you have chosen, one of them two, to shoulder the office of apostolic ministry."

Then the clergyman fell to Matthias. And so it was added to the eleven Apostles. From Matthew's later life, we know that he preached the Gospel in Ethiopia, where he ended his life as a martyr.
