Ο Άγιος Σώζων ο Μάρτυρας

Ὁ   Ἅγιος   Σώζων,   καταγόταν   από  την   πόλη   Λυκαονία  της   Μ. Ασίας.

Βοσκός  στο  επάγγελμα, γρήγορα βαπτίστηκε χριστιανός  και  πήρε  το  όνομα Σώζων. Ήταν  άνθρωπος  ενάρετος  και θεοσεβής. Μελετούσε  τις  άγιες  γραφές  και   κήρυττε   το   λόγο   του  Ευαγγελίου.

Κάποια μέρα μπήκε   σε  έναν  ειδωλολατρικό  ναό  όπου  είδε  ένα  άγαλμα φτιαγμένο από χρυσό. Οργίστηκε  με  την σκέψη ότι  πολλοί  άνθρωποι πεθαίνουν από  την  πείνα, και  οι  ειδωλολάτρες   φτιάχνουν πολυτελή  είδωλα. Έτσι  έκοψε   το  ένα   χέρι   του  αγάλματος  και  αφού  το   πούλησε   μοίρασε   τα   χρήματα   στους  φτωχούς   χριστιανούς.

Ο   ηγεμόνας   της   περιοχής  όταν  έμαθε τι  είχε   συμβεί  άρχισε  να συλλαμβάνει   και  να  τιμωρεί χριστιανούς. Ο   Σώζων τότε παρουσιάστηκε στον   ηγεμόνα   και  ομολόγησε  με  θάρρος  και  χωρίς  να έχει μετανιώσει.  
Έπειτα  από  πολλά  βασανιστήρια παρέδωσε το  πνεύμά του μαρτυρικά  στον   Θεό.

Δι’ ομφής   ουρανίου πιστωθείς προς   τα   κρείττονα,   τους   της   ευσεβείας αγώνας, απτοήτως διέδραμες· και ώφθης  του  Σωτήρος   κοινωνός,  αθλήσας   Μάρτυς    Σώζων    ανδρικώς·  δια    τούτο    διασώζεις  εκ  πειρασμών, τους  πίστει   προσιόντας σοι. Δόξα τω   παρασχόντι   σοι   ισχύν,   δόξα  τω  σε   στεφανώσαντι, δόξα  τω  ενεργούντι    δια    σου,    πάσιν    ιάματα.

Νεανίας άλκιμος, ως επιστάς τω σταδίω, στρατιώτης άριστος του Ζωοδότου   εδείχθης·   τούτου   γαρ,   την   δυναστείαν  διεζωσμένος, έλυσας, των παρανόμων τας επινοίας, και νομίμως εναθλήσας, Σώζον  θεόφρον,  σώζεις   τους   δούλους   σου.

Σώζων  του   Σωτήρος   ο  α ριστεύς,   ο   τας  παρατάξεις,   διολέσας    των  δυσμενών, σώζε τους  δούλους,  της  τούτων  επηρείας,  Χριστόν  καθικετεύων,    σωθήναι   άπαντας.

Saint Sozon the Witness

Saint Sozon, originally from the city of Lycaonia, Asia Minor.

A shepherd in the profession, he was quickly christened and named Sozon. He was a man of virtue and godliness. He studied the scriptures and preached the gospel.
