Ο Άγιος Νεόφυτος ο Μάρτυρας

O   Άγιος   Μάρτυς   Νεόφυτος   καταγόταν   από   τη   Νίκαια   της Βιθυνίας  της   Μικράς   Ασίας   και   γεννήθηκε   από   ευσεβείς   γονείς, τον Θεόδωρο και  την Φλωρεντία. Έζησε κατά τους χρόνους του αυτοκράτορος   Διοκλητιανού   (284 – 305   μ.Χ.).

Από μικρή ηλικία κατέφυγε στον Όλυμπο, όπου ασκήτευε σε ένα σπήλαιο. Λίγο  αργότερα κατεβαίνει από το όρος, ύστερα από θεία εντολή, για να χαιρετίσει τους γονείς του. Με την ευκαιρία αυτή προσφέρει στους φτωχούς της γενέτειράς του ένα μέρος από την περιουσία των γονέων του και επιστρέφει πάλι στο σπήλαιο του Ολύμπου.
Κατά το δέκατο πέμπτο έτος της ηλικίας του, συνοδευόμενος και βοηθούμενος από Αγγέλους, παρουσιάσθηκε ενώπιον του ηγεμόνα Δεκίου. Παρά το νεαρό της ηλικίας του, δεν δείλιασε μπροστά στον ηγεμόνα,   αλλά  ομολόγησε με παρρησία την   πίστη   του    στον    Χριστό. Τότε   εκείνος   τον   παρέδωσε στους δημίους, οι οποίοι για το απροσδόκητο   θάρρος   του   τον   έθεσαν   σε   κλίβανο.   Η   χάρη   του Θεού    όμως  τον  διέσωσε.   Στην   συνέχεια   τον    έριξαν   στα   θηρία, αλλά   και    αυτά  δεν τόλμησαν  να τον  πλησιάσουν. Τέλος, τον σκότωσαν    δια    ξίφους.

Εκ σπάργανων επλήσθης, της θείας χάριτος, ώσπερ  νεόφυτον έρνος χαριτωθείς  την  ψυχήν,   και  θαυμάτων   αυτουργός   ξένων   γενόμενος, ηνδραγάθησας  στερρώς, δι’ αγώνων ιερών, Νεόφυτε Αθλοφόρε. Αλλά  μη παύσῃ  πρεσβεύων,  ελεηθήναι  τας  ψυχάς  ημών.

Ο  Μάρτυς σου, Κύριε, εν τη αθλήσει  αυτού, το στέφος  εκομίσατο  της αφθαρσίας,  εκ σου του Θεού ημών,  έχων γαρ την ισχύν σου, τους τυράννους καθείλεν, έθραυσε  καὶι  δαιμόνων, τα ανίσχυρα θράση. Αυτού ταις  ικεσίαις,  Χριστέ   ο  Θεός,   σώσον τας   ψυχάς  ημών.

Νέος ών τω σώματι κομιδή, τον  αρχαίον  όφιν, ετροπώσω μαρτυρικώς· όθεν  εδοξάσθης,  τη θείᾳ  χορηγίᾳ, Νεόφυτε τρισμάκαρ, πιστών  αντίληψις.

Saint Neophytos the Witness

Saint Marty Neophytos was born in Nicaea, Bithynia of Asia Minor, and was born of godly parents, Theodore and Florence. He lived during the times of Emperor Diocletian (284-305 AD).

From an early age, he resorted to Mount Olympus, where he practiced in a cave. Shortly afterwards he descends from the mountain, after a divine order, to greet his parents. On this occasion, he offers the poor of his hometown a part of the property of his parents and returns back to the cave of Olympus.

During his fifteenth year of age, accompanied and assisted by Angels, he was brought before the ruler of Deci. Despite his young age, he did not scoff at the ruler, but boldly confessed his faith in Christ. He then handed him over to the creatures, who, for his unexpected courage, put him in a furnace. But the grace of God saved him. Then they threw him into the beasts, but they did not dare to approach him. Finally, they killed him by sword.

Of the merry-go-rounds, of the divine grace, as a fresh neophyte, the grace of the soul, and of the miraculous perpetrator of a stranger who was born in the battle of sanctuaries, Neophyte Atholofre. But do not stop the ambassadors, we are merciful to our souls.
