Οι Άγιοι Έρμυλος και Στρατόνικος

Οι Άγιοι Μάρτυρες Έρμυλος και  Στρατόνικος  ζούσαν  κατά  τους χρόνους του  αυτοκράτορα της Ανατολής Λικινίου (308 – 323 μ.Χ).  Ο  Λικίνιος,   όπως   είναι γνωστό, για  να   ευχαριστήσει   τους   ειδωλολάτρες  που  αντιπαθούσαν   τον   Μέγα  Κωνσταντίνο,   διέταξε, περί   το  320 – 322  μ.Χ.,  διωγμό    κατά    των   Χριστιανών.

Ο  Άγιος  Έρμυλος,   κατά  την  εκκλησιαστική  τάξη,  ήταν  διάκονος. Όταν παρουσιάσθηκε ενώπιον  του  αυτοκράτορα  και  ομολόγησε  την πίστη   του   στον   Χριστό,   υποβλήθηκε   σε  φοβερά   βασανιστήρια. Πρώτα   τον  μαστίγωσαν με αγκαθωτά μαστίγια. Οι φρικώδεις βασανισμοί δεν  έφεραν το ποθούμενο αποτέλεσμα.  Στη  δεινή  δε  αυτή  κατάσταση  ευρισκόμενος  ο Άγιος Έρμυλος, κλείσθηκε στην φυλακή. Μετά   από   λίγες   μέρες   καταβλήθηκε  νέα   προσπάθεια,   για   να αρνηθεί   ο   Μάρτυς   τον   Χριστό.   Εκείνος    απάντησε   δοξολογώντας  και   ευχαριστώντας  το  Άγιο  Όνομα  του   Κυρίου.

Μεταξύ   εκείνων που παρευρίσκονταν  στο  μαρτύριο  του  Αγίου  Ερμύλου,  ήταν   και  ο  φίλος   του   Στρατόνικος,  που  υπέφερε  πολύ  για  τα  παθήματά   του. Μπροστά  στο  θέαμα  του  μαρτυρίου  του   φίλου του, ο  Στρατόνικος  δεν μπόρεσε  να  κρατήσει  τους  στεναγμούς  και τα  δάκρυά  του. Αμέσως τον συνέλαβαν και τον κάλεσαν να αρνηθεί τον Χριστό.   Και   εκείνος   ακολούθησε  τον  δρόμο  της  καλής  ομολογίας  του  φίλου  του  Ερμύλου.  Το μαρτύριο επεκτάθηκε και σ’ αυτόν. Τον κτύπησαν   και   ακολούθως  τον έριξαν  μαζί  με  τον  Έρμυλο  στον ποταμό  Ίστρο  (Δούναβη), όπου  και οι  δυό τους εδέχθησαν το μακάριο τέλος  και   έλαβαν τους   στεφάνους   του   μαρτυρίου.

Κάποιοι   Χριστιανοί που πληροφορήθηκαν τα  γεγονότα,  κατέβαλαν  κάθε προσπάθεια,  για  να  βρουν  τα  τίμια  λείψανα  των  Αγίων.   Και  όταν,  μετά τρείς  μέρες,  τα  είδαν κάπου  στις  όχθες του ποταμού, τα  παρέλαβαν  και    τα   ενταφίασαν  μαζί.
Η   Σύναξη   των   Αγίων   Μαρτύρων  Ερμύλου   και  Στρατονίκου  ετελείτο   στον  ευκτήριο οίκο του Αρχαγγέλου Μιχαήλ, ο  οποίος βρίσκεται  στην  περιοχή  που   ονομάζεται Οξεία (νήσος της Προποντίδος),   στη  Φιρμούπολη, που ήταν κοντά στην  Κωνσταντινούπολη,  και  «εν τοις  του  Σπουδαίου»   κοντά στο  Ορφανοτροφείο.

Απολυτίκιον.   Ήχος   γ’.  Θείας   πίστεως.   
Δυάς ένθεος, ομολογούντες,  την  Υπέρθεον,  πιστώς  Τριάδα,  ανεδείχθητε πανεύφημοι   Μάρτυρες,  ο  ευκλεής   και   αήττητος  Έρμυλος,   και   ο  στερρός   και   θεόφρων  Στρατόνικος.   Αλλ’  ως σύμμορφοι,   εν    δόξη  τη  υπέρ  έννοιαν,  αιτήσασθε  ημίν   το   μέγα  έλεος.

Αγώνων τω βυθώ, τον εχθρόν τον διώκτην, ποντίσαντες  στερρώς, Αθλοφόροι γενναίοι, το τέλος εδέξασθε, ποταμίοις εν ρεύμασι, και ιθύνθητε, προς αφθαρσίας το ύδωρ, θείε Έρμυλε, συν τω κλεινώ  Στρατονίκω,   Χριστόν  μεγαλύνοντες.

Γνώμη ομοψύχω και σταθηρά, Έρμυλος ο θείος, και  Στρατόνικος ο κλεινός,   του   Χριστού  το   πάθος,   δοξάσαντες  δι’ άθλων,  της   αειζώου δόξης   κατηξιώθησαν.

The Saints Ermylos and Stratonikos

The Holy Martyrs Ermylos and Stratonikos lived during the times of the emperor of East Likini (308-323 AD). Likinius, as it is known, to please the idolaters who disliked Constantine the Great, ordered, about 320 - 322 AD, persecution against the Christians.

And he followed the way of the good friend's confession to Ermylus. The martyrdom was extended to him. They beat him and then threw him along with Ermyl in the river Istro (Danube), where both of them received the blessed end and received the crowns of the martyrdom.

Some Christians who have been informed of the events have made every effort to find the honest relics of the Saints. And when, three days later, they saw them somewhere on the banks of the river, they took them and buried them together.
