Η Αγία Ευφρασία η Μάρτυς

Η  Αγία  Μάρτυς  Ευφρασία   καταγόταν   από  τη   Νικομήδεια  της Μικράς   Ασίας  και   έζησε  κατά τους χρόνους  του βασιλέως  Μαξιμιανού  (285 – 305 μ.Χ.). Προερχόταν από επίσημη γενιά και διακρινόταν   για   την   σωφροσύνη  και   το    χρηστό   της    ήθος.

Την Ευφρασία την κατήγγειλαν ότι πιστεύει στον Χριστό. Τότε οι ειδωλολάτρες   της   ζήτησαν  να   αρνηθεί   τον   Χριστό   και    να θυσιάσει  στα  είδωλα.   Εκείνη   όμως   έμεινε   σταθερή   και   ακλόνητη στην   πίστη της. Για τον λόγο αυτό την παρέδωσαν σε έναν άντρα  άξεστο  και  βάρβαρο να την ατιμάσει. Η Αγία όμως απέφυγε την ατίμωση με τον εξής τρόπο: υποσχέθηκε στον άξεστο και  βάρβαρο εκείνον   άνθρωπο   ότι,   άν   δεν   την πειράξει,   θα   του   δώσει   ένα φάρμακο,   το   οποίο να χρησιμοποιεί στις μάχες, ώστε να μην πληγώνεται   από   τα   ξίφη   και   τα   ακόντια των εχθρών   του.   Και   για   να   τον   πείσει   ότι   αυτό   που   του   υποσχέθηκε   έχει   βάση, έσκυψε  το κεφάλι της και του είπε να  την   χτυπήσει   με   το   ξίφος   στον αυχένα  της,   ώστε   αμέσως   να   το  επιβεβαιώσει. Εκείνος σχημάτισε  την   γνώμη   ότι   ανταποκρινόταν   στην  πραγματικότητα αυτό   που   του  υποσχέθηκε   η   Αγία   και,  αφού   σήκωσε  το   ξίφος   του,  την   κτύπησε   δυνατότερα   στον  αυχένα, με   την   βεβαιότητα   ότι αυτή   δεν   θα   πάθαινε   τίποτα.      
Έτσι   το   σχέδιο   της   Αγίας  Μάρτυρος  Ευφρασίας   πέτυχε.   Δηλαδή κόπηκε   μεν   το   κεφάλι   της   από   το   ξίφος  του   δημίου,   όμως   αυτή διέσωσε   την   αγνότητά   της    και    έλαβε   το   στεφάνι   του   μαρτυρίου.

St. Eughesia the Martyr

Saint Marty Eughasia came from Nicomedia of Asia Minor and lived during the reign of King Maximianus (285-305 AD). It came from an official generation and was distinguished for its wisdom and good ethos.

The Euphrates denounced it as believing in Christ. Then the idolaters asked her to deny Christ and sacrifice to idols. But she remained firm and steadfast in her faith. For this reason they gave it to an unloven and barbarous man to dishonor her. But the Holy One avoided disgrace in the following way: he promised to the uncaring and barbarous man that if he did not mind, he would give him a medicine to use in the battles so that he would not be hurt by the swords and the echoes of the enemies of. And to convince him that what promised him has a base, he leaned her head and told him to hit her with the sword in her neck to immediately confirm it. He formed the opinion that he responded to the reality of what the Holy One promised him and, having lifted his sword, he beat her stronger in the neck, with the certainty that she would suffer nothing.

So the plan of the Holy Martyr Efhrassias succeeded. That is why her head was cut off by the sword of the puppet, but she saved her purity and received the crown of martyrdom.
