Οι Άγιοι Αφρικανός, Πούπλιος και Τερέντιος οι Μάρτυρες

Οι  Άγιοι   Μάρτυρες   Αφρικανός, Πούπλιος και Τερέντιος  συνελήφθησαν,   επειδή    ήταν    Χριστιανοί  και    οδηγήθηκαν   ενώπιον του   ηγεμόνος   της χώρας  τους.   Όταν   αυτός   τους   πρόσταξε   να θυσιάσουν   στα   είδωλα,   εκείνοι   με   μία   φωνή   ομολόγησαν   την πίστη τους   στον Χριστό   και   καθύβρισαν   τα   είδωλα.   Τότε  εκείνος  οργισμένος  τους    υπέβαλε   σε   φρικτά   βασανιστήρια   και   μάστιγες. Τους   έδεσε   με   αλυσίδες   και   τους   έβαλε   μέσα  σε   κάμινο   για   τρεις   ημέρες. Όταν όμως άνοιξαν τη σφραγισμένη   κάμινο,   είδαν   με έκπληξη   ότι   οι  Άγιοι   ήταν   σώοι   και   αβλαβείς.   Από   το   θαύμα αυτό  πολλοί   πίστεψαν   στον   Χριστό  και   αποκεφαλίσθηκαν.

Ο   τυφλός   πνευματικά   ηγεμόνας  διέταξε   να    ρίξουν    τους    Αγίους  επάνω   σε   αναμμένα   κάρβουνα   και    να   τους   κτυπούν.   Τους ξερίζωσε   με  σίδερα   τους   όνυχες.   Εκείνοι    και    πάλι,  με   την   Χάρη  του  Θεού,   θαυματούργησαν.   Τα   είδωλα έπεσαν κάτω και συνετρίβησαν   στη   γη.   Διαλύθηκαν,   όπως   το    κερί    από    την  φωτιά. Τότε   ο   ηγεμόνας,   φοβούμενος   μήπως    και    άλλοι    από   τους ειδωλολάτρες   γίνουν   Χριστιανοί,  έδωσε  εντολή   να     αποκεφαλίσουν  τους    Αγίους.

Έτσι   τελειώθηκε η μαρτυρία αυτών και  οι  Άγιοι  έλαβαν  τους  ουράνιους   στεφάνους.  
Η  Σύναξη αυτών ετελείτο στη μονή Παυλοπετρείου, κοντά στο  Παντείχιον  της  Μ. Ασίας  και, όπως αναφέρει ο Θεόδωρος ο Αναγνώστης, η   ανακομιδή    των   ιερών   λειψάνων   των   Αγίων Μαρτύρων   έγινε   επί    Θεοδοσίου   Α’   του  Μεγάλου   (379 – 395   μ.Χ.), στις   21   Σεπτεμβρίου   και    αυτά    απετέθησαν  στην    Αγία    Ευθυμία  της   Πέτρας.

The Holy Saints, Populus and Trenty the Witnesses

The Holy Martyrs of Africa, Puplios and Terence were arrested because they were Christians and were led before the ruler of their country. When he commanded them to sacrifice to idols, those with one voice confessed their faith to Christ and defrauded the idols. That angry man then puts them in terrible tortures and scourges. He chained them and put them in a furnace for three days. But when they opened the sealed furnace, they were surprised to see that the saints were safe and innocent. From this miracle many believed in Christ and were decapitated.

The blind spiritual ruler ordered the Saints to be burnt on charcoal and beaten. He roughened them with their nails. Again, with the grace of God, they again marveled. The idols fell down and crashed to earth. They were dissolved as the candle from the fire. Then the ruler, fearing that others from the idolaters become Christians, instructed them to decapitate the Saints.

Thus was the testimony of them finished, and the Saints received the heavenly crowns.

The Synaxis was carried out at the monastery of Pylopetriou, near Panteshion of Asia Minor and, as Theodoros the Reader reports, the relics of the holy relics of the Holy Martyrs were made on Theodosius I of the Great (379-395 AD), on September 21 and these were sent to Agia Efthimia of Petra.
